Robert (Robb) Sands focuses his practice on trials involving complex business litigation matters. He has tried cases in state and federal courts and has represented clients in Illinois, Missouri, California and federal courts on behalf of defendants in multi-million dollar litigation, including toxic torts, product liability, personal injury, class actions, drug and medical device, premises liability, medical malpractice, insurance coverage, transportation, cargo loss and maritime cases.
Robb has served as regional and statewide counsel for several defendants who are named in toxic tort litigation throughout the country, provides litigation management and oversight in thousands of cases, and has served as the lead settlement negotiator for cases pending in 14 states. He has managed and disposed of more than 70,000 cases.
Robb is admitted to the bars of California (1994), Illinois (1999) and Missouri (2001). He is also admitted to practice in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the U.S. District Courts for the Central, Eastern, Northern, and Southern Districts of California, the U.S. District Courts for the Central, Northern, and Southern Districts of Illinois, and MDL-875 (U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania).
Robb is a member of the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel (IDC), including the Civil Practice, Insurance and Tort committees, DRI, ISBA (Civil Practice & Procedure Committee) and FETTI. He assisted in drafting amendments to the Madison County asbestos standing order and amendments to the Cook County revised case management order for all asbestos litigation. He has been a speaker for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education and has conducted numerous in-house training and CLE programs.
Robb has been named an Illinois Super Lawyer (2013-2017), a Leading Lawyer (2014 – 2017) and was a recipient of the 2013 Ingersoll Rand Company “Legal Eagle” Award. He is rated AV-Preeminent by Martindale-Hubble.
